Archer Pose

Seated, hold both big toes; draw one foot toward your ear, keeping that knee bent.

Steps

Support

Both sit bones and the back of the extended leg, including the heel.

Enter

  1. Sit in Staff Pose with both legs extended in front.
  2. Grip each big toe with the same-side thumb, index, and middle finger.
  3. Exhale, bend one knee, and lift the foot and elbow.
  4. Inhale; exhale and draw that foot toward the same-side ear.
  5. Keep the other grip and that leg extended on the floor.

Hold

  1. Keep both sit bones grounded and your torso upright.
  2. Draw the raised leg's knee and its corresponding elbow backward.
  3. Keep the other leg extended and grounded.
  4. Gently open your chest toward the raised leg.

Exit

  1. Exhale and lower the foot with control.
  2. Extend both legs; repeat on the other side for equal time.
  3. Release both big toes and rest in Staff Pose.
Breathing
Exhale as you draw the foot closer; breathe normally while holding.
Gaze
Toward the grounded foot.
Duration
15–20 seconds per side.

Adaptations

  • StrapsLoop straps around the balls of your feet instead of gripping.
  • Lower liftKeep the foot farther from your ear and your seat grounded.

Variations

  • Straight raised leg: second phase.
  • Diagonal variation: crossed grips, foot toward the opposite ear.
