Tree Pose

Vṛkṣāsanaवृक्षासन

Balance on one foot, pressing the other against your thigh, arms raised.

Steps

Support

One foot; the opposite sole presses against the inner thigh.

Enter

  1. From Mountain Pose, shift your weight onto your left foot.
  2. Bend your right knee and hold your ankle.
  3. Place your right sole high against your inner left thigh.
  4. Point your toes downward and your knee out to the side.
  5. Raise your arms and join your palms overhead.

Hold

  1. Gently press your raised foot and standing thigh into each other.
  2. Keep your standing knee extended without locking it.
  3. Keep your pelvis facing forward and both hips level.
  4. Let your shoulder blades rise without pushing your lower ribs forward.

Exit

  1. Lower your arms and separate your hands.
  2. Lower your raised foot to the floor.
  3. Return to Mountain Pose and repeat on the other side.
Breathing
Breathe deeply; alternatively, breathe quietly.
Gaze
A fixed point ahead at eye level.
Duration
A few seconds; equal time per side.
