Steps

Support

Abdomen on the floor; hands holding the ankles.

Enter

  1. Lie face down with your arms at your sides.
  2. Bend both knees and bring your heels toward your buttocks.
  3. Reach back with both hands together; grasp your outer ankles.
  4. Inhale; press your ankles backward and lift your chest and thighs.
  5. Straighten your arms and point your feet.

Hold

  1. Keep your knees hip-width apart.
  2. Press your legs backward against your hands.
  3. Lift your sternum and broaden your collarbones.
  4. Let your head follow the movement of your chest.

Exit

  1. Exhale and slowly lower your chest and thighs.
  2. Release your ankles and straighten your legs.
  3. Rest on your belly.
Breathing
Breathe continuously without holding your breath.
Gaze
Look slightly upward, keeping the back of your neck long.
Duration
5–10 breaths.

Adaptations

  • StrapLoop the strap around the fronts of your ankles; hold ends.
  • BlanketPlace a folded blanket under your pelvis.

  • Bow: bring thighs, knees, and ankles together after lifting.
  • Pārśva Dhanurāsana: roll onto one side while maintaining your grip.
