Standing Bow Pulling Pose

Daṇḍāyamāna Dhanurāsanaदण्डायमान धनुरासन

Balance on one foot, lean forward, and press your held foot backward.

Steps

Support

Sole and heel of one foot.

Enter

  1. From Mountain Pose, shift your weight onto your left leg.
  2. Bend your right knee; grasp your instep from the inside.
  3. Raise your left arm alongside your head.
  4. Press your foot against your hand, backward and upward.
  5. Hinge at your standing hip; reach your free arm forward.

Hold

  1. Keep your standing knee straight without pushing it backward.
  2. Point your raised knee backward without letting it flare sideways.
  3. Reach your chest forward while pressing your foot backward and upward.
  4. Keep your pelvis facing forward and your gaze steady.

Exit

  1. Slowly raise your torso and lower your raised knee.
  2. Release your foot, set it down, and lower your arms.
  3. Return to Mountain Pose and repeat on the other side.
Breathing
Breathe normally while holding the pose.
Gaze
Look at a fixed point ahead.
Duration
10 seconds per side.
