Steps

Support

One foot and both hands; most weight rests on the foot.

Enter

  1. From Uttānāsana, place both hands beside your feet.
  2. Lengthen your spine and shift your weight onto one foot.
  3. Inhale and lift your other leg straight behind you.
  4. Exhale and fold your torso toward your standing leg.

Hold

  1. Keep your pelvis facing the floor.
  2. Engage both thighs without locking your standing knee.
  3. Press through your standing foot and keep both hands grounded.
  4. Breathe evenly.

Exit

  1. Exhale and lower your raised leg.
  2. Rest for a few breaths in Uttānāsana.
  3. Repeat on the other side for the same duration.

Downward.

Variations

  • Opposite hand holds ankle; other grounded; head/chin against standing knee.
  • Two-hand ankle grip: grasp your standing ankle with both hands.
  • Touch your standing toes; this form is called Bakāsana.
