Steps

Support

Both knees, shins, tops of feet, and palms; forehead supported, elbows lifted.

Enter

  1. Start on all fours, with your knees hip-width apart.
  2. Rest the tops of your feet; place hands shoulder-width apart.
  3. Exhale; walk your hands forward, keeping hips over knees.
  4. Lower your chest and rest your forehead, keeping your neck long.
  5. Press your palms down, straighten your arms, and lift your elbows.

Hold

  1. Keep your hips over your knees and your sitting bones lifted.
  2. Press your hands down and rotate your upper arms slightly outward.
  3. Allow your shoulder blades to rotate upward with your arms.
  4. Gently draw your front ribs inward without sinking your lower back.

Exit

  1. Slowly walk your hands back and return to all fours.
  2. Move your hips toward your heels, entering Child's Pose.
Breathing
Breathe slowly; direct inhalations into your back.
Gaze
Toward the mat, with your forehead supported.
Duration
Five to ten breaths.

  • Raised foreheadRest your forehead on a block covered with a blanket.
  • Blanket under your kneesPlace a folded blanket under both knees.

Variations

  • Yin Anāhatāsana: hold for 3–5 minutes.
  • Chin on the floor, gaze forward.
  • Elbows on blocks, palms together.

  • Bent, grounded knees supporting part of your weight.
  • Some weight on your hands and wrists.
  • Arms elevated relative to your torso, with elbows held up.
